Product review: YSL Poudre Compacte Radiance powder

I’ve never found face powders particularly ground-breaking – maybe it’s because they’ve never really been a huge part of my make-up routine, but I couldn’t understand how people could pay anything up to £40 or more, for something that doesn’t make a huge difference to your make-up.  Aside from those who rely on a good face powder to combat problem areas which are prone to oiliness, for example, I guess I didn’t think I would ever need to use face powders.

Taken from the Debenham's website

To say I was wrong, was a huge understatement.  I picked up the YSL Poudre Compacte Radiance – a matt and radiant pressed powder, on a whim, having been sucked in by the beautiful packaging, and a nifty promotion.

I’ve  played around with a few drugstore powders in the past – the most memorable probably being the Rimmel ‘Stay Matte’ powder, which did the job, but looked almost chalky on areas that were not prone to oiliness, so I’d placed a lot of faith in this product before purchasing.  Boy was I right to, I can honestly see my money’s worth in this product.

From the smooth, velvety finish, to the fine, virtually undetectable consistency, this product is an absolute gem.  I usually avoid the matte base look on myself, as I find that it’s nowhere near as flattering as a velvet or dewy finish base, but I have ventured into dusting this powder all over my face, instead of focusing solely on the T-Zone, just because it is such a pleasure to wear.
Usually one to suffer with an oily t-zone which can become shiny towards the end of a day of wearing make-up, I’ve noticed zero shine since using this powder, which is definitely one of the biggest advantages of using this powder.

It is pricey, at around £35 (Debenhams, where I purchased), but it is honestly so worth it. I realise that this review is verging on sounding like something in between a QVC promo video, and a sponsored ad, but I can promise you this is just my honest opinion.

If you’re looking for a powder that actually works, feels luxurious on your skin, and is long-wearing without feeling heavy and cakey – you have it right here.
